workshops Advanced Yoga and Movement Training This series of six experiential workshops will examine the art of movement, perception, and breath from a new functional and anatomical perspective. You will understand your living anatomy as union of how you process the sensory, emotional and cognitive experiences of the environment with how you express and connect through movement. The training is designed for students and teachers of yoga, pilates, martial arts, Feldenkrais, Continuum movement, Alexander Technique, dance and other mindful movement practices. As we explore a merging of the scientific and philosophic through the dynamics of our living anatomy, you will learn advanced concepts of western anatomy including: - primacy of perception in living anatomy
- role of cognition and emotion in movement
- specific anatomy and function of joints and muscle efficiency and kinetic chains
- coordination of structure and function as expressed through the nervous system
- assessment and treatment for dysfunction
Our discussion and discovery will include anthropology, imagery, symbology, emotions, genetics, neurology, psychology, sociology, belief systems and how these factors are expressed through the physical body. All workshops will be held in Venice on a Saturday, from 1pm - 6pm. Each workshop is $150. While it is not necessary to take all of the workshops in the series, or to take them in sequence, the first workshop sets up the philosophy that will feed into the subsequent workshops. If you cannot attend the first session, you may request a make-up session. Workshop #1: Introduction to Structural and Functional Anatomy & Related Body Reading Saturday, May 8, 2010 - Discover in-depth anatomy behind perception and how it can unconsciously create limiting patterns in expression and living.
- Learn to view how a person moves in the context of their experience to better address the whole being.
- Understand the underlying principles of how perception creates movement.
Workshop #2: Breath and Relationship to Gravity Centers Saturday, June 19, 2010 - Address your breathing from anatomical, physiological and psychological perspectives.
- Learn the mechanics and implications of different types of breathing: reverse breathing, belly breathing, thoracic breathing, upper breathing, lower breathing, thoracic excursion vs. visceral discplacement, etc.
- Understand that how you live as spirit in human form is expressed in all the subtle aspects of the breathing cycle.
Workshop #3: Grounding and Balance through the Lower Extremity Saturday, August 14, 2010- Explore in detail how the feet, legs, hips and pelvic floor provide the foundation of support.
- Discover how to use the challenge of balancing in gravity as a resource and how this challenge as human beings directly informs the way we live and move in the world.
- Examine the most potent areas of core line stimulation including vestibular system activators, sensory receptors and fascial structures.
Workshop #4: Understanding the Core, Spine and Tonic Function Saturday, September 25, 2010 Workshop #5: Holistic Function of Upper Extremity Saturday, October 23, 2010 Workshop #6: Integrating Movement and Coordination of Nervous System Saturday, December 11, 2010 To register for the workshop, or for more information, contact Russ by clicking here and filling out the form, or call 310.892.0737.
