What exactly do you do?

The cornerstone of the education is the 10-series in Rolfing. Rolfing focuses on fascia and coordination to create more efficient movement. In my practice, I  emphasize a great deal of movement re-education. My goal is to give you the tools to self-learn so that you need me less through time. I set up the criteria for self-learning in order to empower you for long-term health. When you move better, you will have more energy, less injury and you will age gracefully.

What is Rolfing?

Rolfing is a form of bodywork founded by Dr. Ida Rolf. Dr. Rolf’s focus was on posture and gravity. She created the 10-series protocol to teach posture in gravity and related movement.

How long are the sessions?

One hour.

What makes you different from a massage therapist?

Movement education and a specific focus on one part of the body at a time.

How can you help cure my chronic Pain?

By addressing fascia through deep tissue work and teaching you new habits. This creates better efficiencies by focusing on posture within gravity. Deep work involves stronger pressure and no lubricants such as oil or cream.

How long before I see results?

Typically immediately. But the biggest payoff is in the long-term results. You will experience a gradual improvement with each session.

Is Rolfing painful?

Typically deep work will always create greater pain sensation. Some describe it as a “hurt so good” type of pain. I work with each customer individually to determine their pain thresholds which can vary immensely.

What happens in sessions with you?

Intake to determine common goals. Identification of areas of inefficiency within your body. Combined treatment of manual therapy (deep work) with movement analysis and reeducation.

What is a series?

The classic 10-series developed by Dr. Ida Rolf addresses all aspects of physical movement and posture. Each individual session focuses on a particular body part to bring it up to its highest efficiency. The final sessions more broadly integrate movement of all the parts into a whole.

Do I have to do the whole series?

No. Depending on your intentions and goals, we can set up an approach that suits your specific needs.

What is the goal of Rolfing?

To be comfortable in your body. That means greater efficiency between your physical body within the environment including gravity and space. Some of the benefits of Rolfing are increased confidence, improved balance, improved efficiency in coordination and walking and reduction of pain.

What should I wear?

Men – shorts and a t-shirt – Women – shorts and a sports bra. You are welcome to change at the studio.
